Parish News and Notices - 11th June 2023

i. Parish Annual General Meeting 2023 – This is a great opportunity for the parish to thank everyone who has been involved in planning and running the parish. Since I arrived in the parish in mid-February 2023, I have witnessed a wonderful community with passionate individuals who actively participate and contribute in various ways. I would like to express my gratitude, especially to those who assisted during the transition from Fr. Lito Quinones to my arrival. I also extend my thanks to those involved in facilitating the closure and sale of the church building in Albury, as well as those who organized the services for Lent and Easter. Through your dedicated service, I recognize and appreciate your faith and commitment to our Catholic way of life, and I thank God for it. May our Mackenzie Catholic Parish, by the grace of God, continue to be a place where every believer can grow in sanctity and a beacon of hope for those who are still seeking God and salvation.

ii. Cancellation of Sunday Vigil Mass in Twizel – Due to icy road conditions and a partial closure of Highway 8, concerned parishioners in Twizel have advised me to seek permission from Bishop Michael to cancel the 5:00 pm Mass. In response, the Bishop has kindly granted our request. Instead of the usual Mass, our parishioners will gather for a service of the Word with Holy Communion. As for myself, I will dedicate an hour of adoration in Fairlie during the time when we would normally have Mass in Twizel. Let nothing separate us from the love of God in Christ, and I invite everyone to join together in prayer for those in our towns who have also been affected by the weather conditions during this time of the year. We will continue to proclaim the mysteries of Christ, whether in season or out of season.

iii. A Big Thank You to Dermott O'Sullivan – On behalf of the entire parish, I would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to Dermott for his many years of dedicated service to our parish, especially during his recent tenure as the head of the finance committee. Your commitment and selfless service have been an inspiration to us all, encouraging us to offer our lives in service to the Gospel. I would also like to express our appreciation to the O'Sullivan's family for their unwavering support throughout his long and enduring roles within the parish and beyond. May the Lord bless and bestow His graces upon all of you, both now and forever.

iv. School Mass – Next Sunday 18th June, St. Joseph’s will serve at the Mass in Fairlie. After the Mass, there will be an opportunity to enjoy a cup of tea or coffee. We are grateful to God for our school, which provides a nurturing environment where the younger generation can encounter the Risen Christ.

v. Solemnity the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus - Friday 16th June. Devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus is an act of love. It is a love that we express through our thoughts, words, or actions to our good God, who makes His divine love known to us through His Son and through the presence of the Holy Spirit in the Church. One way to honour the Sacred Heart of Jesus is to formally enthrone the Sacred Heart of Jesus in our homes and places of work and education so as to publicly witness our belief that Jesus Christ is sovereign king over all aspects of our lives. Another way is to encourage others to know, love, and serve the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

vi. The Immaculate Heart of Mary – 17th June.

St. Louis de Montfort wrote: "Mary is the fruitful Virgin, and in all the souls in which she comes to dwell she causes to flourish purity of heart and body, rightness of intention and abundance of good works. Do not imagine that Mary, the most fruitful of creatures who gave birth to a God, remains barren in a faithful soul. It will be only because of a failure in fidelity to forgetfulness of grace, by attachment to creatures. There has never been and there will never be a creature so filled with the power and mediation to aid us. She is almighty by grace."

vii. Please join us in prayer for the following intentions: For the souls of recent passings of Ines Magi Quinones, Mary Brosnahan, Theresa Gabities, Mrs. Donovan, Fr. Kevin Foot, and Chuck Blanchard, remembering Maxwell Rye, Marie Conaghan

- Healing prayers are requested for Stephen Donaldson, the local pastor of Inspire Community Church, who is currently unwell. We also pray for all those who are going through a challenging period in their lives. May God's healing touch be upon them and provide them with strength and comfort during this time of trials.
