Parish News and Notices

1. Safeguarding Talk at Fairlie and Twizel – The MacKenzie Parish has invited Clodagh Ward, the diocesan Safeguarding advisor to deliver a Safeguarding talk in our parish on Saturday July 1st after the Vigil Mass in Twizel and Sunday July 2nd after Sunday Mass in Fairlie. We in the Catholic Church are striving towards a culture of safeguarding where all are safe from harm and abuse and where every person is encouraged and enabled to enjoy the fullness of life in Jesus Christ through nurturing, supportive and protective endeavors of the Church, both individually and collectively.

Note: Anyone who volunteers for Fairlie or Twizel will be required to attend this talk.

2. Parish Annual General Meeting 2023 (AGM) – The Parish AGM went well, with gratitude to those who organized it, although the Twizel portion of the parish couldn't attend due to weather conditions. Plans are being made to find a more convenient date for them next year, and reports from the meeting can be found in the attached files.

3. School Mass is postponed – Due to many students at St. Joseph's having had a cold, their participation in Mass this Sunday 18th June and the Cuppa gathering afterward is postponed until the next term.

4. Priests’ Regional Meeting at Fairlie – This Wednesday, June 21st, it is our responsibility to warmly welcome the priests from the South of Canterbury, as we gather together to share a meal and engage in discussions regarding pastoral care within our diocese and region.

5. Welcome Fr. Justine Lee – Next Saturday 24th June, Fr. Tien is away in Invercargill for the priestly ordinations of the first two Vietnamese for the diocese of Dunedin. Fr. Justine Lee and another brother from the Community of St. John will come and help celebrate the Masses. Please make them feel welcome.

6. Please join us in prayer for the following intentions:

For the soul of the recent passing of Mary Pat Hoare, who was a parishioner of St. Patrick’s Parish for 15 years and her 5 children went to St. Joseph’s. Her funeral was on Thursday 15th June at Holy Name Parish in Dunedin.

- Please also pray for the souls of Ines Magi Quinones, Mary Brosnahan, Theresa Gabities, Mrs. Donovan, Fr. Kevin Foot, and Chuck Blanchard, remembering Maxwell Rye, Marie Conaghan

- We also pray for all those who are going through a challenging period in their lives. May God's healing touch be upon them and provide them with strength and comfort during this time of trials.

7. New Issue of Inform - Please make sure to pick up a copy of the latest issue of Inform, the diocesan magazine that provides insights into the stories, plans, and faith life of our diocesan family. Additionally, if possible, kindly consider delivering a copy to someone you know who may be unable to attend Sunday Mass or is currently working on a farm and unable to join us for a while. This small gesture shows that you care about their faith. Thank you!

8. Road Conditions Awareness: As residents of the Mackenzie region, we are aware of the potential hazards posed by black ice, heavy fog, or dew on the roads. Please remember to drive cautiously and inform our visitors, including strangers, about the current road conditions during this time. By doing so, we can play a part in ensuring the safety of others. Saving lives doesn't require us to be doctors; it starts with simple awareness and consideration.
