Diocese Weekly News and Notices - 4th June 2023

1. Fr. Rick Loughnan has been honored by His Holiness Pope Francis with the title of Monsignor, recognizing him as a Chaplain of the Holy Father. This prestigious title is a testament to Monsignor Rick's faithful and humble service to both the local and national Church. On this special occasion, I join you in extending heartfelt congratulations to Monsignor Rick and his family.

2. Fr. Paulo, who was recognized in the New Year Honours earlier this year and recently received the New Zealand Order of Merit for his outstanding Services to the Pacific Community.

3. Prison chaplaincy is an important ministry that requires suitable and well-formed theologians employed as chaplains nationwide. Fortunately, in our diocese, we currently have no vacancies. However, if you know someone who may have a passion for this ministry, please encourage them to offer their services. Additionally, we are in need of volunteers locally for this vital ministry. Bishop Michael kindly asks us to promote prison chaplaincy within our parish. If anyone is interested in serving in this capacity, please contact Mike Stopforth at the Pastoral Office.

5. Catholic Business Network

Join us at Te Pae Convention Centre at midday on Tuesday June 27th to hear business leaders Dame Therese Walsh and Sir Brian Roche reflect on their experiences leading high-profile organisations and how they bring a Catholic business ethos to the Board table and the businesses they lead. 7. Sunday 11th June: Solemnity of Corpus Christi.

Join the Beatitudes Community for an afternoon with our Lord. (67 Leithfield Rd, Leithfield).

12:00pm: Holy Mass followed by Procession of the Blessed Sacrament.

Lunch: bring your picnic, 1pm-5:30pm: Eucharistic Adoration, 5:30 pm: Benediction and Vespers.

8. Assistance for Apifo'ou College in Tonga.

Apifo'ou is a Diocesan Catholic school which was badly damaged by the Tsunami last year. A project is being led by the St Vincent de Paul, Christchurch, and St Bedes College to send a container to Tonga to provide needed materials to the College.

They are looking for donations of the following:

Brass cutters, computer monitors, library resources, science resources, industrial art resources, stationery, dictionaries, home economics resources, chairs, desks, tables, shelves Also 1 self-motored wheelchair for one of the staff with a physical disability.

9. Jubilate 2023

The Cathedral and Waimakariri parishes are bringing their talented choirs and young singers together for a good sing. Join us at St Mary’s Pro-Cathedral, Thursday 15 June from 7.00pm to 8.00pm. All welcome and admission is free. Ken Joblin, Sacred Music Advisor, Christchurch Diocese.
